China's energy consumption per unit of GDP in the first three quarters fell 3.46 pct, the China Petroleum Daily reported.
Yu Cong, director of the energy efficiency center under the Energy Research Institute, was quoted as saying that coal, textiles and construction materials industries saw the sharpest declines.
For the third quarter, energy use per unit of GDP fell 0.58 pct, Yu noted.
In the 11th five-year plan, China set a target to reduce energy consumption per unit of GDP growth by 20 pct during the 2006 -2010 period, or 4 pct per year.
